HLAA Position Opening: Web Technologies Manager and Developer

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is seeking a Web Technologies Manager/Developer. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manager that has primary responsibility for oversight and management of the association's web services, web infrastructure, web development, and electronic media efforts. The Manager oversees the information technology infrastructure of this small, dynamic association, including the identification, evaluation, implementation, and ongoing management of technologies that can be leveraged to advance HLAA’s strategic goals.

Job Summary:
The Manager is focused on leading and implementing the strategies for the Association’s Web portals and Web presence, which will include: management responsibility for all aspects of Web technology across the organization; managing relationships with external and/or outsourced providers of services related to the Association’s Web portals and Web presence; collaborate with other HLAA staff to help the organization establish/maintain Web and online strategies which support core  objectives; designing and implementing infrastructure and architecture for technologies supporting the Web and portal presences, including applications, development platforms, content management systems, directories, web services and databases, etc. The position requires creativity, curiosity, flexibility, judgment, the ability to work in teams as well as be a self-starter, and must have good communication skills. Requirements for this position include a strong understanding of troubleshooting, in-depth knowledge of security measures, professional writing skills, active learning and listening skills, time management skills, excellent communication and good customer service skills, problem solving skills, flexibility and dependability, independent work skills, and a thorough knowledge of business and management principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the site’s content is fresh, creative, current and accurate
  • Oversees relationship with external and/or outsourced providers of software/services related to Web presence and Web portals.
  • Manager third party hosted web and digital services
  • Remains current on emerging technologies and Web standards to establish and support Association Web guidelines, browser compliancy, accessibility, and usability; with an eye on future developments that will improve the overall user experience;
  • Envision, oversee, and help implement new electronic and other content initiatives and site additions
  • Work with staff in various departments to ensure that web content is user-centric and consistent in style, format, and quality 
  • Leads in the development of a strategic plan, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with appropriate best practices.
  • Partners with HLAA staff to enable business development and operational goals for all HLAA departments and programs.
  • Conceive and design web pages and other online materials as needed. Engage in considerable copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking of content on an ongoing basis
  • Develop and send high-quality HTML emails on regular basis to distribution lists
  • Develop new Web sections as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries (calls/emails) from members and general public about the website.
  • Create banner ads and graphics, including chapter logos in a timely manner
  • Edit, resize, retouch photos to be used online or in marketing material
  • Renew domains
  • Upgrade the Drupal core code
  • Compile website statistics for use in determining marketing and communication strategies.
  • Offer technical support to HLAA staff
  • Be the Network IT backup to the database administrator
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on software and hardware
  • Researches emerging technologies in Web design and technologies, providing recommendations applicable to existing products and to the initiation of new programs.
  • Other duties as assigned 

Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor's degree or preferably a master's degree in a technology related discipline from an accredited institution;  Five to seven years of experience required in website production, management, or development, including direct experience with a Web content management system; 5 to 7 years’ experience managing a large Web infrastructure(s) in a nonprofit environment (i.e. thousands of pages across multiple sub-sites); and 2 years’ experience in project management;

Technical Skills:

  • Deep expertise and hands on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML, PHP, CSS, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, JQuery
  • Familiarity and ability to quickly learn third party software such as Adminium, Github, Sendwithus, Intercom, Cloudinary, Production Dyno, Production Database, Postmark, Airbrake
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver)
  • Experience maintaining Drupal sites and Heroku sites
  • Experience with Blackbaud products (Luminate Online, Raiser’s Edge, NetCommunity)
  • Knowledge of Egnyte (Cloud storage system) 
  • Solid understanding of Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Work Environment:
Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Travel to national convention might be required.
