Position Opening: HLAA Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT) Education and Training Coordinator
 
Job Summary:
 
The HAT Education and Training Coordinator is the lead staff for HLAA’s Network of Consumer Hearing Assistive Technology Trainers (N-CHATT) program, a volunteer, train-the-trainer program. This program builds a network of consumer trainers with the knowledge and skills necessary to train others impacted by hearing loss in the successful integration of hearing assistive technology to support individual hearing and communication needs at home, work, school, and the community. This blended learning format includes an online community, webinars, and in-person training workshops. This is a grant-funded, part-time position. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teaching adult trainees about HAT via both online and in face-to-face meetings
Primary contact with trainees: selecting, guiding and supporting trainees for the entire N-CHATT program online, via email and phone, and in person
Updating and uploading course materials to CourseSites as needed
Handling the logistics of the online course
Providing publicity for the N-CHATT program for the HLAA e-News, Hearing Loss Magazine, on the website and other publications
Organizing and facilitating the face-to-face meeting in the home office in Bethesda, Maryland, and at the HLAA Convention 2016 in Washington, DC in June
Coordinating the application process: from release of applications to selection of trainees
Collecting and analyzing evaluations
Providing reports to funders
 
Education and Experience:
 
A bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university required; master’s degree preferred. Degrees in audiology or a similar field a plus.
 
Relevant Experience:
 
At least 5 years’ experience working with assistive listening and alerting systems and telephones as they relate to people with hearing loss; at least 3 years’ experience training adults; at least 3 years’ experience working with online training programs and social media. Experience in audiology or other hearing health related field and online training programs a plus.

Ability to work online with CourseSites, Blackboard, webinars
Ability to teach adults via both online and in face-to-face meetings
Ability to update course materials as needed
Understanding of how and when to hire CART or captioning services
Ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and in oral presentations to a range of audiences
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and professionalism
Must be a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will take the initiative
Solid experience in the nonprofit environment
Ability to produce quality materials within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects
Comfort as self-starter but also has an ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with team members
Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings; and
Ability to travel as needed
Technical Skills:
Basic understanding of CourseSites, Blackboard or other online training platform
Word processing, email, knowledge of research using the Internet, comfort with social media
Basic knowledge and understanding of hearing assistive technology
 
Work Environment:
 
Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work might require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Travel to HLAA Convention 2016 and other meetings might be required.
