Jacksonville Walk4Hearing: Nonprofit works to erase stigma of hearing loss, 'Don't be afraid'

By Beth Reese Cravey, Florida Times Union, Jacksonville.com

Danielle Fanelle was about 9 when a school hearing test in her home state of New Jersey revealed she had minor hearing loss. At the time, an audiologist said it was no big deal, just something for her parents to monitor. But over the next nine years, minor became major.

The hearing loss, along with severe dyslexia, made school difficult. Her family and friends kept noting how loud she was talking. Her figure-skating coaches kept having to restart the music for her choreographed routines because she could not hear the notes well enough to follow along.

The HLAA Jacksonville Walk4Hearing will take place on Saturday, November 7,
Metropolitan Park, Jacksonville, Florida.
